2003 Mississippi Freedom to Learn Initiative
The foundation of the Mississippi Freedom To Learn initiative has its origins in the concept that Free, open source software (FOSS) provides viable solutions to many of the challenges encountered by K-12 public education. With its increasing acceptance by industry and the U.S. government, its ongoing improvement, accessible and adaptable open code, and its increased use in consumer markets, the timing is imminent to utilize this powerful resource in educational environments.
